Escape to the peace and beauty of Central Portugal. Relax in our small but spacious and charmingly converted barn. Situated down an unmade track, in a secluded valley, 1k (walkable) to the friendly village of Folques and 4k to the small market town of Arganil, the cottage is set in a wooded hillside, part of 30 acres of private land, in the grounds of an English-owned converted water mill (owners in residence).
Accommodation consists of a large, comfortable double bedroom, bathroom and storage/dressing area on the ground floor. A spiral staircase leads up to a spacious sitting/dining area, with views across the valley, well appointed kitchen, small balcony and BBQ area.
Ideal for a restful and romantic break, the area is renowned for the abundance of its butterflies and wild flowers in Spring, the long and lazy heat of its Summers and the dramatic colours of the forest in Autumn. The area, with its mountains, rivers and valleys, is perfect for walking - easy or rugged according to inclination - fishing and swimming from the lovely and usually deserted river beaches. One of Portugal's best and beautiful golf courses is an easy hour's drive away and in Winter, Portugal's only ski resort is only an hour away. Or, of course, you can simply relax and do nothing...
There are many charming bars and restaurants in the area and pretty hill villages to explore, as well as the ancient university town of Coimbra and the Roman ruins at Conímbriga. A trip to the lovely beaches on the Costa Prata (Silver Coast) is also worthwhile.
The cottage is available for a minimum of 4 nights from €250.
