This stone house is newly re-built with lots of insulation keeping it toasty warm in winter and cool in the summer. This property is environmentally friendly having its own solar water and electric systems. Inside is an open plan living room, dining room and handmade chestnut kitchen and French windows lead onto a stone terrace sheltered by olive trees with beautiful views to the opposite side of the Benfeita valley. Downstairs is a double bedroom opening onto stone terrace looking out onto beautiful cork oak woodland and beyond.

Quinta do Sandinho is set above the village, hidden behind cork oak woodland. It is just a short walk down to the river beach and open air summer bar. Vehicle access is down a one kilometre dirt road. The car can be parked on a terrace above the house with a short path and steps down to front door.

There are detailed simple instructions in the house on for using the Solar power, washing machine etc. There is also a petrol generator for the odd times in winter when there is not enough sun. Bio cleaners and soap provided as there is a septic tank. No coffee machines, irons or toasters may be used but there is plenty of power for laptops, lighting, music systems and other appliances which are not power hungry. There is a simple grill on the gas stove for making toast. Gas and wood are included in the price of holiday lets.

Benfeita is a truly magical village with a incredibly friendly welcoming locals and a growing foreigner community of artists, musicians and organic farmers. The village has an attractive summer river pool and beach. This includes a children's pool and changing facilities and is next to the summer bar in the square where concerts, festivals and other events are often held. There is also a tennis court, a local shop, post office and a second bar. Both bars have Wi-Fi and TMN internet dongles work well in the area.

The landscape is awesomely beautiful and there are some breathtaking marked walks like the one to the spectacular waterfall of Fraga da Pena. The nearest small town, Coja is only a ten minute drive. The university city of Coimbra is an hours drive. There is skiing about an hours drive away in the Serra da Estrella mountains and it's about an hour and a half to the beach.
